MessageJay Holobach is a landscape painter who does not simply copy what he sees. Instead, he creates bold impressions of color and light. His paintings have been accused of elevating the ordinary into the extraordinary, striving to capture that fleeting moment of light by creating a ‘living postcard’.
Jay currently resides in Oklahoma. This vast crossroads of America’s geography under the big sky affords him an endless source of inspiration. His thoughtful use of expressive shapes, bold colors, and sense of place reflects a connection to the landscape where he lives and paints. Primarily a plein air artist, Holobach can be found painting on location across the Southwest’s colorful countryside, later expanding upon those studies in his studio.
In addition to his plein air and studio practice, Holobach is a dedicated educator and speaker. Whether teaching or giving painting demonstrations Jay is actively involved in the local art community.

Statement
As a landscape artist, whether painting outdoors or in my studio, I’m not trying to copy what’s in front of me. I’m not taking a photograph; I’m making a painting. My focus is translating what I see, without using words, into a living postcard for the viewer, connecting them to the beauty that already surrounds them.
I work in oils using my palette knife or brush to create strong values, colors and shapes. A decisive color filled painting tells its story in its own spontaneous way.
