A barque is a sailing vessel with three or more masts, where the fore and main masts are square-rigged, and the aftmost (mizzen) mast is fore-and-aft rigged. This rigging configuration made barques efficient for cargo transport, requiring a smaller crew than a fully rigged ship while offering better upwind performance than a purely square-rigged vessel
