A look at the devil in Southern Folklore through combined stories. One where he plays with the vernacular of the South and the other where he plays the victim. In Southern Folklore, the devil is less an agent of evil and more an encourager of cleverness. This piece reexamines this figure as a possible sympathetic trope.
