The light hitting the gate and vines helped to create the design for this painting. I lightly sketched it, painted a transparent layer of burnt sienna, then slowly lifted the highlights. Having to work fast before the acrylic paint dried, the texture was created with tissue, sponges and more lifting. When it was dry, several layers of transparent paint were glazed into areas to darken or highlight them.
