Statement
I am an award winning contemporary textile artist from Perth. I love to explore the amazing world we live in with its striking scenery and fascinating flora and fauna.
I want to raise awareness of the natural world. Our world is under threat from a multitude of issues which include climate change, pollution and urbanisation. I want everyone to appreciate what we have, with the hope that they will take some active steps to protect it.
To do this I interpret my experiences in fabric and thread using my sewing machine. My pieces generally start with the background which is eco dyed or painted with sun dyes. To this I add a collage made with fabric to outline the main design. I add the finer details with thread painting on the sewing machine which brings the picture to life. To finish the pieces they are either quilted or stretched over canvas/framed.
I have designed my art pieces to bring joy and take you on a journey to explore our amazing world. As I have been lucky enough to travel to six continents I have plenty of experiences to chose from. I can take you walking in the great outdoors, on safari in Africa, or diving in the deep blue. We can also explore things closer to home including urban parks, or the local beach. All these places have interesting plants and animals.
Come and explore with me.
