I’ve been an oil painter for fifty years . I started out with pen and ink moved into oil painting as a teenager .
MessageI’m an contemporary artist (born 1955 based in Fayetteville Arkansas . I work as an American Abstract Expressionism and Landscape artist . I went to high school in Los Angeles although I had lived in Montana , Louisiana , Washington, Puerto Rico and Arkansas
Twenty five years ago I moved from California after graduating with a bachelors degree in art and art history from University of California Santa Cruz I moved to Fayetteville AR. I studied printmaking and art history as I was very interested in how folks exhibited their art and what it took to sell art.
My paintings come from a drive to create and define atmosphere . I really love landscapes . I have been able to learn a lot about art visiting museums . Sometimes visiting so many art galleries makes me harder on myself ;The Images that I saw really changed my paintings as I paint my people, my environment, my family, places I have lived and places I want to live, these kind of events inspire my work. I really love breathtaking landscapes and still life’s . My favorite thing to paint is clouds and a landscape and people.
It is hard to paint with people in a room, so normally I paint alone and I am not good at talking, listening while I am in my zone. It is a lot of pressure to make art that appears like no one will like it and it will forever be stuck in this current times zone. I have some of my older art and I use to paint a lot of people from magazines in high school and when I went to college. I loved Bobby Sherman as a kid and the Monkeys I loved drawing them and they were my favorite subjects. I also painted a lot of music celebrities when I recently went to my mom's house she had a painting I painted at 16 years of age of Emerson, Lake and Palmer in turquoise and black. It was so interesting.
Statement
Began drawing and painting as a child and I gradually made my way to Oil painting as a teenager.
Originally I wanted to be a printmaker because I wanted many pieces of one piece of art . It was like a camera printmaking . I enjoyed the process of printmaking and oil painting . I build layers and enjoy the length it took to dry . I really loved reading old books about Leonardo DI Vinci and others in history like Napoleon Bonaparte.
I portray myself in my art . I traveled my whole life so my art was where I had been and where I was going. Everything is labor investigations . Recently I have everything to do some new printmaking projects and I have been showing my etchings.
I hope my art can be shown in a romantic way.
I have been an artist as long as I can remember but since junior high for sure.. Took art in high school for 3 years and dropped out in 12th grade to go paint. Went to college got a degree in art and art history .I graduated from a school with no grades in my Bachelor's program. It was narratives, you earned an A - The professors wrote about your art.
I do love oil but I pretty much love oil painting the most. I think the Italians Renaissance and Netherlands artist were the best artist. I tried to get into the modern era like Impressionism but I really fond of 16th century art . I do like Picasso , Matisse and Leonardo da Vinci plus Renaissance art anything from Europe .Mostly now when you look everyone paints in acrylic. I’m into Georgia O'Keefe and Edward Hopper from the USA. Really love their landscape paintings . Look closely Night Hawks was sold for $4,000 to the Art Institute in Chicago in the 1940's
As I child I entered contests and won at 5 years old. That win led me to love art, and I took art in high school all 3 1/2 years where I left early and at the age of 17 I worked for California originals where we painted ceramics before they fired for stores. It was super cool . Always young and rebellious I left school at 17 to paint murals and ceramics. I do not beleive that jewelry, clay art, (little figurines are real classic fine art) I do not like sculpture unless it is bronze.
My main goal is bringing happiness to the viewer. I love to draw. I think the last 20 years I have been relearning how to draw and I do love drawing with colored pencils and markers. Painting is a solidary pursuit and do paint alone.
Art is a life time of learning. Mainly an oil and acrylic painter. Love animals , and landscapes always studying wildlife in my yard in Fayetteville Arkansas. I attended one year at the University of Arkansas 1997-98 . Graduate of the University of California Santa Cruz 1993 Art and Art History Bachelors Degree I think after I went to the university I really learned that it isn't necessary to go to art school but it really helps you see how wonderful your other students are in their creative process so therefore I was never regretful that I went to college for art. I felt like I won the lotto.
