Statement
Working within non-objective abstraction across painting and sculpture, Jane Pryor sees the studio as a place of improvisation and contemplation.Present in the process is the notion of Kairos, the opportune moment. The fragments of possibility in an elastic space of contemplation where ideas jostle and sidle up to one another. Pryor is interested in the inherent mutability of things, that nothing is fixed in appearance or interpretation. In both paintings and sculptures each coloured object is allowed a space of its own in relation to the other pieces.
Recent work has a lightness of character. Reducing thoughts to the simplest and lightest expression, in recent paintings Pryor arranges abstract shapes and colours on the canvas, unplanned the paintings evolve. They are expressions of the duality of experience, of lightness and mortality.
