JANE M. MASON
Niles, Illinois
I work in watercolor, textiles, photography & multi-media. I look for the colorful, happy, awesome stories to create.
MessageI do art to because it grabs me and wont stop. Every project is a new challenge to see something delightful and capable of bringing happiness.
I've been an artist my entire life.
Creating art makes me happy. It brings out the child in me like whistling, skipping, and riding a bike.
Traveling to beautiful sites in the world, listening to diverse musical influences, and studying great art traditions, has helped inform my point of view. Art is a language that bridges cultures. It opens channels to share stories. I consider my creativity a gift chosen for me and I'm honored to share it with everyone.
My work consists primarily of two-dimensional work in watercolor, textile art, and mixed media. I create videos and educational lessons on art. Most of my videos are on YouTube at WatchingPaintDryLLC:

I paint. I visit museums. I contemplate. I teach. I currently teach at various venues and online. I have taught painting, art history, and drawing for about 30 years around the USA including at Cleveland Botanical Garden, Missouri Botanical Garden, Illinois Central College, and Harvard University. Teaching is challenging, exhilarating, and hilarious.
I love whimsy. I love painting vegetables and food. I feel empowered by the energy of water. I nearly swoon at the mastery of watercolor by John Singer Sargent and Winslow Homer. So, often I try to emulate the energy and confidence of their work in watercolor.
I’ve won national awards as well as participated in dozens of exhibits and art shows. I’ve learned that wisdom comes from the journey. And, patience and humility are some of the best companions on the journey.
