Jacquelyn Stephens paintings are inspired by microscopic other worlds. Particle physics, pulsating atoms, cell growth, minuscule amoebas and of course she can never escape the otherworldliness of underwater sea life. Jacquelyn grew in and by the sea at Flinders. Ultimately the paintings are about our sense of awe and wonder at these miraculous building blocks of life.
Inspired by the beautiful microscopic worlds of all existence and the life giving nature of water. I wanted the painting to be floaty and serene with a light and gentle atmosphere. Calming on the mind and soft on the eye. A peaceful energy field of colour dancing across the picture plane that is both enchanting and mesmerising.
The colours are easy on the eye and the atmosphere is light and soft. The cool yellow background is so alive yet restful at the same time. It acts as the perfect backdrop for the slow graceful dance of the ovoid cell-like forms in the foreground.
