In Jan 2018, MIRROR and I joined Maitree Siriboon in presenting "THE MONEY TREE PROJECT/NONG BO ART HOUSE" at Art Stage Singapore. In this interactive installation, fair visitors were invited to learn more about the Nong Bo Art House, and to leave a contribution through one of the five money trees present at the installation.
The money tree is a perennial symbol in Thai Buddhist tradition, standing for generosity and merit-making. Each visitor was able to exchange a donation amount of their choice with a hand-printed linocut "Nong Baht" note -- an imagined currency of the village of Nong Bo, featuring the Art House.
I designed the five different "Nong Baht" money notes (in denominations of 5/10/20/50/100 "baht") in rubber linoleum, and hand-printed more than 400 linocut prints for the trees with the help of MIRROR and a family friend.
