The historical significance of this home lies in its association with the Parkinson Family who came to Kelowna in 1906. Dick Parkinson born July 2, 1901, in Fairview B.C. became involved in the fruit industry of the Okanagan in his twenties, opening fruit wholesale houses in Calgary, Regina and Saskatoon. Dick's love of sports moved him to civic affairs, lobbying for parks and sports fields and in 1939 at the age of 38, he became the youngest member of City Council. He was known as "Mr.Regatta" for his unrelenting support of this annual event on Okanagan Lake. After serving in WWII, Dick was again elected to City Council in 1948, a position he held until 1958 when he became Mayor of Kelowna (serving until 1969).
The vernacular cottage home of solid construction was built in 1930th. It reflects a more simple and straightforward design of horizontal emphasis with low shingled gable roof and a steeper roofed entry vestibule. Updated windows and door, now combine with mature landscaping to compliment with mature landscaping to compliment the original rounded concrete steps and serve to elevate the curb appeal of this historic home. There is a magnolia tree in the front yard centre that is now popular feature of this address.
