MessageI started late in the arts - somewhere in my 30’s.
At that time, I was keeping my day job as a human resources practitioner and senior manager in a global cloud computing company. I explored Shui Mo, traditional Chinese art at the Yuchengco Museum taught by an esteemed and accomplished Taiwanese painter. I spent about 6 years learning the delicate art of watercolor using rice paper and bright pigments to paint flowers, birds and landscapes. After a year exploring the eastern art, I started dabbling in different mediums including oil, acrylic and pastels through the tutelage of two Tanay artists this time, learning the western techniques and exploring different subjects. This art collision allowed me to weave different compositions mostly inspired by my travels. For nine years, I was active in group exhibitions including the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA), National Commission for Culture and the Arts and the Federation of Filipino Chinese Associations’ show, “A Celebration of Filipino-Chinese Art Wong x Patricio x Mendoza” held at the lobby of DFA, Pasay City in 2017, among others. In 2021, I donated one of my oil paintings entitled, “Isang Kisap Mata” or Blink of an Eye to the Australian New Zealand Chamber of Commerce (ANZCHAM), for a UNICEF fundraising event to support their advocacy, #SaferKidsPH. It was the highest bidded item during the auction gala night.
Currently, I am preparing for an exhibition for 2024 with the Philippine Zi-Der Chinese Art Club and other international artists to be held in the Federation of Filipino-Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Inc., Binondo Manila.
Statement
As a corneal organ transplant recipient, I see painting as “a gift of seeing the world under a borderless lens.” I dream of one day doing an international exhibit promoting this cause.
