My background? A first generation Swede, I learned knitting, embroidery and sewing from my mother. Working with my hands has been part of me since I was a little girl. But for many years, teaching and performing music and family took a lion’s share of my time. Painting was put on hold.
In 2018 my wife, son and I moved to Puerto Armuelles, Panama, and I felt the luxury of time and the peace of living on a beautiful stretch of secluded oceanfront. For 7 years I dove into the study of art, beginning with a constructivist drawing course online. I began a pet portrait business, selling at a local market in Boquete. From there I delved into abstract art and collage. A life-long student I studied: acrylic mediums and techniques, collage, recycled art methods, assemblage, and several composition courses. I created, in essence, my own tailor-made Masters in Art through distance learning.
Today I live and work in Santa Fe, New Mexico with my wife, Melinda, and our two poodles and 2 cats. We enjoy exploring the many trails in the Sangre de Cristo Mountains, the Pecos Wilderness and the Carson National Forest.
Statement
The whoosh of the wind, the musty smell of leaves, the shimmer of aspens in the breeze - these are my inspiration. botanical abstract mixed media works that capture the feeling of being in wilderness and nature. My pieces suggest both the beauty and ruggedness of wilderness in Northern New Mexico.
I adore leaf and petal shapes, transparent layers, gelli-printed papers, mark-making tools, some improvised from sticks, feathers or other found objects. My color palettes spring from the wildflowers and plants of Northern New Mexico.
My audience? People who resonate with the natural world, who feel most alive experiencing the sights, sounds and smells of nature. In these turbulent times, people who find solace in art inspired by the natural world.
