Regarding the origin of the image, the artist noted in 2024 that:
"KS was inspired by a route I did to Denver a few times. I would bring my bicycle and drive the interstate to Lawrence and then drop down to Rt. 36. It's a two-lane blacktop and an old Pony Express route. It's really interesting, goes through low rolling hills and you can go really fast all the way to Denver just slowing down for towns along the way. I stayed in a motel somewhere and rode my bike a little bit on the highway and that's how KS came to be. "
