Freedom of speech is the foundation of our communities and our nation. The works in this collection may awe, illuminate, challenge, unsettle, confound, provoke, and, at times, offend. We defend the freedom to create content and exhibit such work, and we recognize the privilege of living in a country where creating, exhibiting, and experiencing such work is a constitutional right.
To exhibit a work of art is not to endorse the work or the vision, ideas, and opinions of the artist. It is to uphold the right of all to experience diverse visions and views. If and when controversies arise from the exhibition of a work of art, we welcome public discussion and debate with the belief that such discussion is integral to the experience of the art. Consistent with our fundamental commitment to freedom of speech, however, we will not censor this collection in response to political or ideological pressure.
The Hudson County Community College Foundation art collection includes painting, sculpture, photography, American craft pottery, historical artifacts, and ephemera. The Collection reveals aspects of America’s and New Jersey’s rich artistic and cultural history from the Hudson River School period to today. In recent years, the College’s acquisition efforts have focused on strengthening its American and New Jersey modern and contemporary collections. We invite you to discover the extraordinary creative diversity represented by the hundreds of works installed throughout our campus.
Since 2006, the HCCC Foundation art collection has grown to over 1,900 works. The collection includes works by major American artists, a strong, growing collection of emerging and established New Jersey artists, and Foundation Student Art Award winners. These works are installed in thematic, curated groups throughout the 9 campus buildings in Jersey City and Union City for the educational benefit of students and the community.

Thanks to our 115+ donors who have given us works of art, art books, frames, Plexiglas installation boxes, and other related materials. The College is grateful for these gifts.
Donor generosity and the HCCC Matching Program for Donor Gifts for the Fine Arts makes this collection possible.
