During the reception for the Tiny Things show at Columbia Art League, this piece was awarded 2nd place by the juror. I am very excited because this is my first cut paper art piece and I'm glad to know it was well received.
This one started with a whim and a page in my sketchbook. Oh! There was some Pinterest inspiration too. It is powered by 8 rechargeable AA batteries and has a switch on the back.
Here's an excerpt from my project wrap-up for my Patreon patrons:
Why did I choose cut paper and LEDs?
I'm not really sure. I think I can blame Pinterest for it. I've seen lots of pins of lighted shadow box designs. Some of them are breath-takingly intricate.
In my sketchbook, I'd been cutting pages like those cut paper tunnel books. Again, pinterest driven. At that point I was thinking more of a layered, cut-paper card situation, no lights.
Last December, in a fit of end-of-the-year start-it-all energy, I decided to use the Cricket House design to create a lighted shadow box for the Tiny Show at Columbia Art League.
