ARTIST STATEMENT:
The works in this portfolio act as tactile records of time. Each begins with handspun yarn, inked during spinning to embed my presence as “fingerprints.” Across the school week, I track eight class periods from calm to chaos, translating them into stitch patterns knitted into spherical forms. Uniform stitches mark calm, ordered holes suggest control, and frayed areas reflect disruption. Perforations and base patterns further map time. In a digital age, this slow process preserves personal history in material form, inviting reflection on memory and record-keeping.

TECHNIQUE:
Over the course of a school week, I keep a spreadsheet of my eight periods teaching art. For the physical artwork, I start with cream colored wool and spin yarn on my wheel. As the wool is drafted, I dip my fingers in black ink, embedding my 'fingerprints' into the yarn. Once spun and plied, I start knitting a base pattern of a globe, with patterns representing the classes I documented. Upon completion of the knitting, I dip the form in glue, blow up a balloon around it and let it dry. The final step is popping the balloon, reinforcing the base and placing it over a light fixture for display.
