The shape of the links of this necklace was inspired by the metal tines or keys of the Mbira, a traditional musical instrument of the Shona people of Zimbabwe. Unlike the tines of the Mbira which are hand-forged in metal, these shapes were 3D printed in stainless steel.

This necklace is part of ongoing experimentation with design and production methods that combine 4IR technology and hand-manufacturing techniques to produce contemporary jewellery.
