  • Artist: Peter Sadofsky

Peter Sadofsky (aka Petr Motycka) is a visual artist working in various media: painting, sculpture and conceptual art. Born in 1971 in Prague, Czechoslovakia, he grew up in Los Angeles after his family immigrated in the early 80s. After one year at the University of Oregon he was accepted to the Academy of Art, Design and Architecture in Prague in 1991 where he graduated with a Master of Arts degree in photography and graphic design.
There he was assistant professor during his post gradual studies and received a PhD in visual culture and art theory in 2005. At the same time he was also a lecturer at the Faculty of Social Studies of Masaryk University in Brno. In 1997 he founded the Pode Bal collective, that is credited to having repoliticised the art scene in the Czech Republic in the late 1990s. He was an artist in residence in Marseille, Berlin, Vienna, Zurich, Bienno and St. Thomas Island. Since 2018 he lives and works in Los Angeles. Peter Sadofsky in the past also exhibited as Petr Motycka, Pode Bal, Swen Leer and together with Dan Trantina as Sadofsky & Trantina.
