Parallel Lives IV expands the Parallel Lives series from individuals sharing urban space to groups inhabiting parallel social and ideological worlds. Inspired by the visual language of medieval icons, each panel portrays a distinct community, distinguished by differently coloured halos that symbolise contrasting beliefs, identities or values. Although physically close, the groups remain separated, while the direction of their pupils suggests silent debate, tension or even dispute across these invisible boundaries. Through its restrained palette, rhythmic composition and expressive faces, the painting explores how proximity does not necessarily lead to understanding or connection.
