Artist Bio
Helen Wade is a visual artist, whose work is an expression of her feelings and experiences. Helen currently lives in Myrtle Beach SC. She was born in Arlington MA and has lived in many places within the US and in Latin America, including Puerto Rico, Costa Rica and Mexico. Helen has been painting since 2019 and her medium is acrylics. She is self-taught and describes her art as intuitive, naïve and akin to the outsider art genre.
Helen had a difficult childhood and later struggled with alcohol and drug abuse. Following a life changing event in 1984, her world changed. Helen was fortunate to became a member of a group who provided her a path to self-discovery and spiritual awakenings. Her art is totally intuitive reflecting her inner thoughts and feelings.
Helen’s work has been shown at the William H. Miller Studios and at the Seacoast Artists Gallery, both in Myrtle Beach SC. Her work was accepted into the Piccolo-Spoleto Festival juried show in 2022 and into the Waccamaw Arts and Crafts Guild juried show in 2022.
She is a member of the Artists on 8th Ave. Collective and the Waccamaw Arts and Crafts Guild.

Artist Statement
I became inspired and encouraged to start painting in 2019, following the completion of a creativity workshop based on the premise that if one has a long-held desire, dream or instinctive push to do something, it is most likely a nudge from the universe that needs to be explored.
Prior to that time, I had experienced great difficulty expressing myself through art. Since taking the workshop, I have had the courage and confidence to paint. My art seems to depict a personality who is both happy and content and yet restless and unsettled. My medium is acrylics and I describe my work as being expressive, intuitive, unique, and colorful.
In some ways, I feel that I do not do the art, the art does me! I am usually quite amused and surprised by the finished painting! I know that my art work is a self-portrait, an expression of my experiences, my fears and my hopes. When thinking about the viewers of my art, I imagine them standing there, being intrigued, heads cocked to one side, thinking,” wow, what is this all about?”
As a self- taught artist, my wish is to inspire and encourage others to open up to their creative selves and express their gifts.
