Fire rejuvenates the prairies, which are one of our most endangered eco systems. Prairie fires are a part of healthy prairie lifecycle, slowing down the invasion of encroaching trees and wind-blown seeds. Fire helps speed up decomposition, returning nutrients to the soil from the ash. Fire suppresses non native and many woody invasive plants, which, if left unchecked can quickly over take a prairie. Fire keeps prairies in balance.
