I am interested in the interaction so creatures in woodland and other ecological communities. Both spiders and dragonflies eat other insects. Researchers look to dragonflies as ecological indicators. The presence of dragonflies indicates fresh water. Dragonflies reside low in the food chain, so scientific study of their numbers and their health can reveal changes in water ecosystems more quickly than studying other animals or plants. They are both predators (mosquitoes and other flying insects) and prey of birds, frogs and other creatures. Native Thimbleberries are a favorite of many pollinators. Their large flowers attract native bees. It is the host plant for Mining bees , Yellow-faced bees, Green Arches moth, Thimbleberry gallmaker and Yellow-banded Sphinx Moth . Hummingbirds may occasionally stop by too.

Additionally, the plants support a number of beneficial creatures, including the yellow-banded sphinx moth, a fascinating bee mimic that looks like a tiny hummingbird or large bumblebee.
