In Greek mythology, Hera, the queen of the gods, received a special tree as a wedding gift from Gaia (Earth) when she married Zeus. This tree, often described as a grove or a single tree, bore golden apples that granted immortality. The tree, and the golden apples, were entrusted to the care of the Hesperides, who also had the assistance of a hundred-headed dragon, Ladon, as a guardian.
