I painted this on location in 14-degree weather. My paint was stiff and almost frozen, and I knew I couldn't stay out long and needed to work fast. Despite the conditions, this piece was a joy to paint, and it became a favorite painting.
The mountain in the background was renamed “Miracle Mountain" after the wildfire that happened during the summer. A church leader told us that when we looked at that mountain, we should remember the many miracles that took place.
