I painted this portrait during the Oil Painters of America event in Steamboat Springs, Colorado. While I worked, the model shared stories from his time as a Ranger on horseback with the National Forest Service. His face and posture reflect the courage, grit, and determination of the modern cowboy—still riding the trails and protecting the land of the American West.
