This painting was inspired by driving home to Kansas from Colorado, on backcountry roads, instead of taking the interstate. That was a long drive, but much more interesting than the endless flatness of I-70 in western Kansas. I love maps and drawing elevation like lines in graphite, so I outlined fields and roads in pencil, and carved up the landscape into different shapes and colors.
