Listening To The Land
The places that live deep in my heart were foremost in my mind as I developed these paintings. So much of my childhood was spent exploring the dense old growth of the Pacific Northwest. My family camped…a TON! In my mind’s eye it was every weekend, which may not be totally accurate but it’s not far off. The colors and scents of those days are imprinted so strongly that I can place myself back there almost on command. Captured here are those memories - of wonder, exploration, freedom of expression and of moving through the world completely unselfconsciously. Rooted in the knowledge that the world and the people around you are beautiful and that you are loved. Deeply loved.
Reflections on Orquevaux
I had the incredible opportunity and honor to spend two weeks last fall at the most beautiful artist residency, Chateau Orquevaux, in the Champagne region of France. Surrounded by creatives from around the world including the most brilliant staff, this was a time of true growth, in which I played with a limited palette and worked larger than ever. Several of these were created while I was there and the rest are a direct result of the way in which this place and it's people changed me.
Studio Series
Most of my work is created as part of a series, however, as a process painter who loves (and I mean LOVES!) to play around and experiment with different mediums, I end up with quite a few pieces that don't fit within a specific group. That's what you see here in the Studio Series - stand alone paintings born of curiosity, a love of materials and all things play.
