Harry Utter is a long time Denver resident whose work is focused on creating unique mixed media works on paper. While Harry has collected contemporary paintings, sculpture, and works on paper for over four decades, in recent years he has turned his attention to printmaking, creating monotypes and mixed media works on paper.
Harry was born in Detroit, Michigan, and has a Bachelor’s degree from the U.S. Air Force Academy, and an M.B.A from UCLA. Formal art education started with painting classes in oils, acrylics, and watercolor at the Sacramento Fine Arts Center in Sacramento, CA, in the 1970s and continues in printmaking at the Arts Students League of Denver over the last decade.
Harry's most recent works are his Andes Series, Euro and Asiana Door Series, and Contempo LoDo Series of Monoprints. The Andes pieces are influenced by recent travels on the Inca Trail in Peru; the Asiana and Euro Door Series by travels in Asia and Europe; and the Contempo LoDo pieces are inspired by urban views of Lower Downtown Denver.
Solo exhibits include Cooper & Dash Gallery with 20 monoprints, Alliance Francaise Gallery with 30 monoprints, and five solo exhibits at Amante Coffee Lodo. He has shown his work in group exhibits at Lincoln Center Gallery (Ft. Collins), Artworks Loveland Gallery, SPARK Gallery, CORE Gallery, Edge Gallery, D'Art Gallery, Art Students League of Denver, Lakewood Cultural Center, Arvada Center for the Arts, and NJC Youngers Gallery. A common set of themes for his work is a strong abstract composition with bold colors, of figures, landscapes, and urban spaces.
