Born to Dutch dairy farmers in LA, lived life cross-culturally, especially in Africa , now pursuing my first love, making art.
MessageThis piece is polychromic: many colors. It's a word NT Wright uses for what communities, like the church, should look like.
What is amazing to me is that each of these color swatches is different and yet made with just the three primary colors: cadmium yellow, cadmium red, and ultramarine blue. And yet all this diversity. This shouts out in protest to racial categories of black/white, or other binary distinctions. Each person is unique and beyond neat categories and classifications. And to me, this polychrome is beautiful and rich!
I've used this piece on tote bags, and as the cover of "Lickety-Split in the Kitchen: an Artsy Practical Cookbook".
