Contemporary British artist, Slade School of Art, UK graduate and Arts Council supported painter, concerning the natural sublime and the transcendental realms
MessageLayers of sap green and indigo blue build up to make a near black void in the top half of the painting. Using traditional mediums, an enamel-like grey rock or puddle or lake sits proud on the surface of the bleached linen with earthy purple streaks suspended within the lacquer.
This painting expands upon the Romantic conception of nature; dissolving the boundary frequently drawn between the natural world that surrounds us on Earth and the natural sphere of the cosmos. The sublime is the human capacity of feeling when presented with raw nature, and such a feeling transcends the boundaries of language; it can only be gestured towards, approached obliquely.
