Contemporary British artist, Slade School of Art, UK graduate and Arts Council supported painter, concerning the natural sublime and the transcendental realms
MessageThis piece is inspired by a vision of two waterfalls falling into the same river that I saw in Iceland while on a residency in 2015. I didn't take a photo, but the experience of climbing high up and over a rocky hill to then have the scene revealed has stayed with me because the natural symmetry, the isolation and remoteness, the feeling of being made suddenly aware of your mortality, yet at the same time one with nature. It has been the subject of many drawings and watercolours before this work.
The background is made with hide glue and pigment to the colour is absorbed into the linen to give depth. The stars are multicoloured and glazed, as is the pool of water, to catch the light as one moves around the work.
