This striking portrait blends realism with abstract expression. The subjects upward hints at introspection, the vibrant brushstrokes bring movement and a contemporary feel to the composition.
My notes on this painting: I am very much an introvert and that is why I was attracted to the woman's gaze (based on Uma). I kept the use of colour fresh and vibrant, so she doesn't feel heavy and moody. The movement of colour was applied to the canvas first, to give the portrait a chaotic and unpredictable feel, deliberately 'unfinished'. It is how I experience life.
