I love cardinals and I love pens.
Cardinals have a very distinctive chirp. They are not shy birds and don't mind sharing spaces with their human neighbors. I always feel encouraged when I see the flash of a red cardinal. While the males carry the bright red plumage, the female cardinals are equally stunning although slightly more subdued.
Basically, Cardinals make me happy and remind me to be hopeful. I Hope this painting brings you a smile and imparts hope.
As for the pens, well, I bought an expensive set of gel pens that quit working almost immediately. I tried all sorts of methods to revive them but to no avail. I could not bring myself to throw the pens away so I did the next best thing. I repurposed them by collaging them into this painting. I LOVE the sound they make when I move the painting. I love the sculptural effect of the pens embedded beneath the rice papers.
I love this painting. It needs a place where it can inspire and bring joy.
