Barbershops have long been a place, not only for men to have their haircut or beards trimmed, but a place of gathering. Stories are swapped and jokes told. Barbershops have been the subject of their own mythologies, appearing in literature and the settings for countless movies and plays. This drawing explores the culture and aesthetics of barbershops and the rights and rituals that play into the simple experience of having one's hair cut. The title is inspired by Ray Bradbury's book The Illustrated Man. It refers to the tattoos of a highway drifter whose tattoos come alive at night and tell stories to any who will listen.
