Ellen Fishburne is originally from North Carolina and studied with Ms. Louise Gilbert in Statesville. She earned her BFA in Communications Art and Illustration at East Carolina University. She is a member of the Guild of Natural Science Illustrators and the American Society of Botanical Artists. Alice R. H. Smith, Beatrix Potter, and John Singer Sargent are some of the many artists whose work she admires. A South Carolina resident since 1980, Fishburne is the natural history illustrator for the SC Wildlife magazine, and has produced illustrations for the SC State Museum, USC Press, and SCETV. Her work has been shown in Fairfield County's Arts on the Ridge, SC State Fair, Florence Museum’s Miniature Art Competition, Crooked Creek Art League, NBSC Oil Painters’ Open Invitational, H. E. Corley Elementary School, and others. She was a charter member of Columbia SC’s About Face figure study group. Fishburne’s art is included in private collections throughout the Southeast.
