- Collin van der Sluijs
As a kid, Colin van der Sluijs attended the school for traditional painting at Goes in The Netherlands. Today, he realizes murals and paintings that reflect his daily personal pleasures and translate these into his very own visual language.
It may be difficult to elaborate upon Colin’s art, his artistic endeavours are simply too quirky and too varied to nail them down to just one description. He is an illustrator, a painter, and an optimist. There is a sweet twinkle in the eye that makes his paintings stand out on canvas as well as on concrete walls. The colour-palette he uses is quite bright, but this optimistic undertone contrasts more often than not with the artists’ depicted topics, praying skeletons, cheese-grating monkeys, a Godzilla-sized starling on the wall of a high-rise, suddenly the vibe in his art changes and becomes much less palpable, more abstract, maybe even slightly nightmarish. Van der Sluijs’ extensive classical education shines through with every brush stroke his art is defined by a vibrant, varying stroke. It can be precise in the main subjects of his paintings as well as diffuse in the backgrounds.
