Statement
My training as an art therapist lead me from an unemotional, rational and analytical headspace into a direct and practical hands-on-approach where art is created and experienced in an intuitive and sensory manner.
The difference is enormous. Going from a thinking space to a phenomenological approach where you try to just observe what happens and what your senses tell you without preconceptions about good and bad, allowing what is created to appear without judgement has been a major shift for me personally and artistically.
When I started developing my own artistic practise as a part of my art therapy training, I had never dreamt that my investigation of colours would bring me to a place of interaction with the spirit world. In fact I was not aware that spirit or faster moving energies was working with and through me. Not until I showed a friend some of my 'studies' as I called them, was I made aware that what I had created, was more than mere 'studies'. She encouraged me to show my work and so I participated in a public art fair in Copenhagen.
Here I met a small handful of people who actually understood what my work contains. A female healer came up to me in a state of excitement and proclaimed my 'studies' to be 'healing pictures' emitting a very high frequency. I was incredulous, touched and very honoured to receive this acknowledgement. Several other people at that fair also felt the spiritual energies present in my work and even saw them manifest. You will often see the spirits slowly emerge in an image when you take your time to sit and just gaze at it.
I believe my artwork is best 'consumed' as slow art. You can’t sense it in a glance. Most people need to slow down and quieten themselves before they are able to sense the energies present in my work. We are so used material things, surface and fast consumables, that we forget we can dive deeper and sense energetic vibrations.
If you do allow yourself the time to sit and look - really look - then you might just re-engage or awaken some of your inner senses that lie dormant in you.
Thank you for reading about my work 💜
