Huddee Herrick was born in New York City in 1921. Raised in Burlington, VT, she attended the University of Vermont, receiving a B.A. and an M.A. She eventually joined the faculty of Marlborough College as a professor of history, poetry, and writing. Huddee’s art talents blossomed soon after the death of her husband, who was himself an artist. In the summer of 1973, Huddee had a stroke, which left her paralyzed and unable to speak. She relearned speech and taught herself to draw and paint with her left hand. Huddee was a resident of Linden Lodge Nursing Home, where she spent most of her days drawing and painting. Huddee passed away in 1996.
