Artist: Robin "Bob" Guicheret
The Gallery is saddened to report that our artist, Robin "Bob" Guicheret, has passed away.
Many years ago, long before there was a G. Lee Gallery, Bob was lead carpenter during the first renovation of my old house. One day he mentioned he painted. Stopping by his house, I was greeted with a room full of very large, unimaginably vibrant paintings. The longer I looked, the more complicated the seemingly simple designs became. The renovation finished, Bob and his crew moved on, years passed.
With the opening of the G.Lee Gallery in 2014, Bob now retired, re-appeared at the Gallery mentioning to George (Gallery founder) that he painted. Describing the art to us, George said go take a look. I did. When I brought some back to the Gallery, George asked when could Bob do a show?
George had no idea how reserved Bob was. I proposed the idea to Bob. Naturally we wanted both him and his art to be present at the show. Bob's first answer was a flat out NO. My cajoling continued.
Eventually, he agreed to show his art. The Gallery hosted a solo show and a year later the "Two Guys Show" with both his and George's work together. Bob was never seen at either of the openings. I am happy to report he did show up for his checks as the art sales were successful. On moving to the Gallery's current location, we have been delighted to continue to represent his work.
Bob received a Bachelors of Fine Arts from the University of Manitoba, Winnipeg, Canada. Influenced by Matisse and Picasso, his art has a very distinctive style.
