Gardens
As an enthusiastic gardener, my passion for gardening stems from my English heritage. Gardening is akin to painting for me, where I begin with a concept and adapt accordingly, crafting a vibrant masterpiece with the soil. Just like the transformative art of painting, gardening is a profound, invigorating endeavor that connects me harmoniously with the elements of earth, light, and water.
In Moonlight
This series, originally called Moonlight Gardens, was sparked by my interest in - and planting of - “moon gardens” which are designed to be seen, and smelled, at night by moonlight.
Nature as Fantasy
In Nature as Fantasy I envision a future world where renewal prevails. It unveils an unimaginable, vast, realm, free from death, disease, and harm.
This series consists of eight oil paintings: five measuring 48x72 and three measuring 48x48.
Seasons
Every season manifests life, both seen and unseen. Within every entity lies hidden, emergent vitality. Life persists beneath the most barren, hostile conditions: ice, snow, desert, and rock.
Humans have always seen in this purely natural cycle of seasonal change a profound spiritual nature. Faith believes that life persists - even in winter's cold grip or in heat-blasted sands - and will in due time again emerge and flourish.
Sunrise
Following the success of my first 2 series, "Dawn's Momentary Magic," and "Breakfast with the Dawn."
I chose to explore the theme of dawn's light further and continue to delve into the sun's light in early morning at first light, using a variety of media to capture a daily transformation of dark to light.
The Tree of Life
"The Tree of Life" series continues to evolve and flourish. In doing so, it reflects the creative, evocative power of this image in human history and culture. It constantly brings together the elements of my other themes: Trees, LIght, Gardens, Seasons.
In some cases, the Tree of Life painting has its roots (so to speak) in a living tree: a cypress, baobab, or olive. In other cases, these are inspirations for a largely imaginative tree. All are frankly mystical, evoking the power and mystery of this ancient symbol.
These artworks come in various sizes, ranging from 48"x48" to 40"x60" in traditional oils. Several works are 19”x24” and 24”x36,” painted with alcohol inks on synthetic, non-porous Yupo paper, which is then mounted on cradled, wood panels.
Trees
I'm captivated by the enigmatic and majestic nature of trees. On our property, we once had four Sugar Maples, as ancient as our 1840 house. I often pondered how much of the trees we truly owned, considering how their roots extended beyond our boundaries. Countless generations of small creatures found refuge in their roots, branches, and trunks, utilizing their leaves for shade and nest lining. Perhaps it was the trees that possessed us.
During my childhood, I fondly recall walking in nature and serenading the trees.
To this day, I find immense delight in envisioning the true essence of each tree, capturing both my joy in their presence and their enigmatic life force. It continues to exhilarate and enchant me.
