This artwork by Gavalav is an abstracted interpretation of the iconic “Last Supper”, a 15th-century masterpiece depicting the moment Jesus announces that one of his disciples will betray him.
Gavalav reimagines the sacred gathering not as a solemn moment frozen in time but as a living, breathing interaction between figures using fluid, colourful impasto linework and expressive, almost cartoonish forms. Departing from da Vinci’s structured composition, this artwork emphasises movement and dynamism, capturing the shock and emotion with bold outlines in reds, yellows, blues, and oranges against a warm, earthy background emphasizing themes of faith, betrayal, and communion.
