Independently, spectators always contribute a narrative to an art piece, regardless of the vision of the artist. This beautiful process is what gives deeper meaning to any creation, the ability of any work of art to connect with observers, sensually and emotionally is the expansion of narrative, that Gavalav strives for through his art. An entrepreneur during the day, the Delhi born Gavin Kochar with an educational background in perfumery & cosmetic sciences from the University of Art, London paints under his artist pseudonym ‘Gavalav’ (Gav-a-laav). He channels his love for chemical experimentations, blended with his creative spirit, to create transcendental pieces embodying the emotional, spiritual, and ethereal energies of humans beyond the conformed identities of our perception.
He does this by combining inspirations from his idolized masters like Francis Bacon, FN Souza, Basquiat; along with his impasto technique, to create works that can be described as an infusion of Cubism & Neo-Expressionism. Rather than creating art that is traditionally appealing, he focuses on creating art that challenges the conventional form, while bringing the role of the artist and societal perceptions into the mix. With time it evolved into representing edicts of irrationalism, spontaneity, artistic freedom and emotional reaction. Through his work, he enforces the need to undertake a transformative journey, navigating through the entricate corridors of your emotions of desires and fears.
