Julian Peña [Japanese-Dominican-American visual artist, °1985] earned his B.A. at the University of Washington in Seattle.
Peña is best known for his signature style influenced by anime aesthetics and psychedelic color palettes. His playful yet menacing acrylic paintings are adorned with decorative techniques using consumer-aided techniques. Narratives include themes of identity, casting eccentric avatars inspired by video game culture.
Peña recently completed a 3-month Artist-In-Residence program at Breck Create in Breckenridge, CO. He has shown in numerous shows, was voted “Best Artist of South Sound Magazine” 2012/2013, and participated in collaborate/create’s residency. He founded and operated a gallery that prioritized underrepresented artists through his 501c3 nonprofit. Currently, he has been awarded a 2 year affiliate membership at Gallery 110 in Seattle, WA. Peña lives and works in Seattle, WA.
