Josephine Cora Prins is a pyrography and watercolor artist living in Owatonna, MN with her family. Much of her inspiration comes from nature, especially in the Minnesota area. Through her work she finds joy and healing in creating paintings that seek God in the beauty of His creation. She spends most of her day with her two young daughters but can be found working in the studio in between nap times and at night.
Josephine has a bachelor's degree in Graphic Communications Management from the University of Wisconsin Stout with a minor in Spanish and Art. This degree led her to start out her career as a sewing production manager at a printing and signage company in Wisconsin. Wood burning and lettering soon became an outlet to escape the stress during the day. Josephine began sharing her projects online and began to receive requests for commissions. New projects led her work to evolve into what it is today and allowed her the opportunity to be home with her girls while pursuing a career as an artist.
Josephine fell in love with the texture and visual interest wood grain creates when it is combined with pyrography and watercolor. Each wood panel is selected with the inspiration image in mind so darker grain and knots can flow into the painting intentionally and amplify the beauty found in the landscape. She uses a variety of wood burning techniques and tools to bring out the dimensions of the space while adding layers of watercolor to bring the elements to life.
