Gabriela Almeida-Riberio is a Brazilian-born physical metallurgical engineer and black and white photographer currently residing in Brazil. Born in 1985 in Rio de Janeiro, Gabriela developed an early interest in the sciences and pursued a degree in Materials Engineering from the Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro. After completing her studies, she worked as a research engineer at a metallurgical company in Brazil for several years before relocating to pursue a doctoral degree at the University of São Paulo.

Gabriela's passion for photography began in her teenage years, and she continued to explore the medium throughout her academic and professional career. Her black and white photographs are characterized by their minimalist composition, strong contrasts, and emphasis on light and shadow. Gabriela's work is often inspired by the built environment, and she has a particular interest in the interplay between architecture and nature.

Statement

My work as a photographer is driven by a fascination with the interplay between light and shadow, form and texture. I am interested in capturing the essence of the built environment, from the grandeur of historic structures to the stark simplicity of modern architecture. My images are marked by a minimalist aesthetic, with a focus on strong contrasts and carefully composed geometric shapes.

In my photographs, I seek to reveal the hidden beauty of the everyday world. By capturing the play of light and shadow on familiar structures, I aim to create a sense of visual tension that draws the viewer's eye. I am inspired by the natural world, and my work often explores the relationship between man-made structures and the landscape that surrounds them.
