- Martin Dawe
An experienced sculptor with a long list of private, corporate, and publicly-sited commissions, this was the first project where artist Martin Dawe collaborated with at-risk youth in the development of the artwork. Through a summer-long workshop with youth from the Mechanicsville area and youth referred by the Juvenile Court, the artist gathered information and inspiration for the imagery, symbols, and words used in the artwork. On one side of the atrium, an abstracted series of images, words, and patterns are installed. On the other side of the atrium, these abstracted parts come together to form two large-scale figures that are playfully maintaining their balance.
