From Museum notes: "In this painting, Missouri artist Fred Shane pictures a feature of the landscape familiar to anyone who lives or works near one of the state’s many rivers or streams: a log of ordinary driftwood. The driftwood dominates the composition, and only a few sketchy trees and other environmental elements are represented in the background. Shane calls attention to the beauty of this commonplace object that many people ordinarily ignore."
