I have always loved the fact that Matisse, and Dufy seem to have booked the same room in the same Hotel in Nice, as this identical view of the Promenade des Anglais from the Hotel window features in many of their paintings.
I tried to find it on a visit to Nice, but as often seems to happen when I book a Hotel, we ended up with a lovely view of the car park!
So, the view is stolen from Dufy and Matisse, the guitar and cakes are courtesy of my wife Teresa, and the rest is bits and pieces from around the house!
The overall intent of the work is to give the same sense of ‘joie de vivre’ which is so evident in the paintings of the two sublime French artists I mentioned, Matisse and Dufy.
