This painting distills the quiet dignity of a Scottish rural church into a vibrant, musical abstraction. The familiar gable and rose window rise from a mosaic of colour — a harmony of teal, violet, and ember-orange that suggests both landscape and spirit. Beneath, fragments of collage and notation act as echoes of hymn and memory, their rhythm grounding the composition like a heartbeat beneath the melody.
“Highland Kirk” captures the duality at the heart of much of my work — the solidity of structure against the fluidity of emotion. The church, luminous yet solitary, becomes a symbol of continuity and belonging, its presence both earthly and transcendent within a landscape alive with colour and song.
